Barnes Lab Enjoys TAS 2018

The Barnes Lab attended the 121st annual meeting of the Texas Academy of Science last weekend, enjoying the Midland College campus as well as the opportunity to learn about interesting research taking place across the state and showcase some of our own work. Lab highlights from the weekend included an excellent presentation by PhD student Elizabeth Roesler in the Graduate Student Competition on her work assessing Tilapia invasion risk across the state as well as a poster presentation by undergraduate Rachel Bittner on her research applying species distribution models to understand seagrass distribution along the Texas Gulf Coast. Bittner even took home an award for Best Poster in the Undergraduate Conservation Biology section! Another honor received this weekend occurred when Dr. Barnes was elected Chair of the Freshwater Ecology Section of the Academy. We are looking forward to next year’s meeting at Howard Payne University.
